Inspiration of the Month: Bodyform’s sharp-witted reply

How should brands react to negative posts on their social media brand pages? React defensively? Simply ignore them? Or as most social media rulebooks suggest: react in a transparent, clear way?

Three options to be considered, indeed. But not so for sanitary pad brand Bodyform. They unleashed a fourth and far more powerful option: the weapon of wit. So what happened? A cynical post on their Facebook page about ‘the reality’ of women’s periods — as opposed to the brand’s commercials — went viral in no time (it got more than 80.000 likes). A tough one to counter. But within a week Bodyform answered masterfully with a clever, sharp-witted video (now viewed more than 3 million times). That’s what we call ‘outsmarting the skeptics’.
