An in-depth analysis of the role of IT in the Belgian health care sector
This study provides an in-depth analysis of technology issues in the Belgian health care sector, which is based on close to 80 qualitative interviews with senior technology managers and policy makers in the sector and a review of publicly available literature. The focus of the study was on understanding the main sector-wide operational and policy issues impacting on health care in Belgium and how these translate in technology priorities. The report offers an independent perspective and comment on decision-makers’ most pressing issues, such as cross-sector information flows, the electronic medical file, the concepts of Clinical Paths, hospital “ERP” systems, the electronic prescription, the unique bar code, CareNet, etc.
